The Shinfield Road Traffic Lights approved, designed and installed by Reading Borough Council are still causing undesirable traffic congestion and high levels of pollution at peak rush hour periods.
Cllr Parry Batth raised the issue at a meeting of Reading Borough Council, asking “Despite Reading Borough Council’s reluctance to acknowledge the ongoing issues caused by the replacement of the Shinfield Road roundabouts with Traffic Lights, the local residents, businesses and road users continue to suffer daily from damaging traffic congestion caused by the introduction of the untimely and unwanted traffic Maidens Traffic Lights. As a direct consequence the local businesses have suffered from drop in sales; Road users suffer from prolonged and delayed journeys; Rising Pollution levels from congested traffic are a potential health hazard; Local residents’ safety has become a real issue. Will the Lead Councillor please explain as to when the Reading Borough Council will act to listen to the outcries of local businesses, residents and road users to return the roundabouts to replace the traffic lights to remedy ever increasing traffic congestion caused directly by the unwanted traffic lights designed and approved by the Labour led administration?”
Unfortunately Councillor Page, the lead Councillor for Transport, was unwilling to accept any of Parry’s points, but Parry will continue to campaign on this issue.
