I have lived in Emmbrook with my husband and 3 children since 1986. My husband was born in Wokingham town and we are now the 4th generation living here. I have been a Wokingham Borough Councillor since May 2003 and was honoured to serve as Mayor for two years. I have also represented Emmbrook on Wokingham Town Council and served for 17 years including two as Town Mayor.
I am originally from Sweden where I qualified as a Solicitor and Barrister. I met my husband in Sweden in 1981 and we moved to his hometown Wokingham in 1984. Through his work we have lived and worked in different countries. In 2012, I qualified as a Montessori teacher and I have been working with children ever since.
Since May 2019 I have been the Lead Member for Children's Services. Working with officers, I am developing a new policy for children with special needs and disabilities (SEND) and a new Home to School transport policy.
As the Executive Member for Children’s Services, I am working hard to ensure that every child in our Borough is being given the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. Part of this work is to ensure children stay healthy, which is why I was happy to support Emmbrook Secondary School when they asked for a 3G pitch. This is now available for use by the whole community.
I was keen that a new primary school be built in Matthewsgreen in Emmbrook. This will open in 2022 and there will be a playground close by. As the parent of three sons, I know how important it is to have a really good school near your home.
The traffic flow in Emmbrook will ease further with the opening of the Northern Distribution Road (the NDR). The Conservative council here is also investing £1.6 million in nearby Cantley Park, which is a popular recreation area used by many Emmbrook residents.
I have been the Chairman and Non-Executive director of Loddon Homes since May 2019. This is a council owned company specialising in building affordable homes.
House prices in our borough make it difficult for young people to find their own places to live and I am pleased that we can help the next generation to be able to stay here.
