Disabled Parking During Covid

During the COVID social distancing period the Council has had to make changes to the pavements and pedestrian flow for safety reasons. Cllr Pauline Jorgensen is responsible for Highways and Transport in Wokingham Borough and she explained that this has forced to temporarily close a few disabled spaces in the following streets, the alternatives are identified below or being worked on.

Arborfield Cross relief road update

Lead Member for Transport Pauline Jorgensen said: "This is the second in a group of nine Wokingham Borough Council-led major highways projects being delivered by Balfour Beatty under the SCAPE Procurement Framework. Just months away from completion, the new 2.3km relief road will reduce congestion, boost employment and create opportunities for more sustainable travel, providing traffic relief in Arborfield and Arborfield Cross and the surrounding rural lanes.

STRONG START TO NEW STREET CLEANSING CONTRACT

“Providing this service through our existing highways contractor makes the transition almost seamless,” said Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways and transport. “It will also increase efficiency in the years ahead for our roads and pavements, as highway maintenance and highway cleansing are naturally linked services.”

Quarantine changes

The Department for Transport has confirmed that people arriving in England from more than 50 countries including France, Spain, Germany and Italy will no longer need to quarantine from 10 July. Read the full list here.

 

Wokingham Conservatives come out in numbers to protest Cement Works

Wokingham Conservatives came out today and met with protestors in Shinfield to stand up against the proposal for a new gravel extraction site and cement facility by Cemex. The Wokingham paper came today to speak with residents and representatives and our members came out to support.
