Wokingham borough residents will soon be able to enjoy another destination play park within the borough at California Country Park.
The play park, located in Finchampstead, will involve a major overhaul and once built will rival the play park at Dinton Country Park and Elm’s Field.
It will include lots of new equipment, an inclusive sensory and water play area, a new woodland adventure trail and tree houses.
The upgrades will improve accessibility for all including children and parents/carers, with new surfacing and more seating, along with additional toilets and a new ‘changing places’ facility which have already been installed.
Construction is due to start in early October and will be complete in spring 2021. The existing play area at California Country Park will close from Monday 5 October.
Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure, said: “This is such an exciting time to live in Wokingham Borough.
We are building so many new facilities, including schools, major new roads, nature parks, leisure centres and now another new destination play park for families to enjoy.
“The new play park at California Country Park will have something for everyone, including equipment for children with special needs and disabilities. We have already upgraded the car parking facilities and the toilets, in anticipation of an increase of visitors to the new destination play park.
“We asked residents for feedback on our proposals and they told us they wanted us to ensure we protected what is special about California Country Park. We listened and made sure the existing trees and hedges will remain and that the new facilities do not impact the ecologically sensitive areas in the country park.
“We would like to take this opportunity to ask our residents to bear with us while we have to close the existing play area to build the new facilities.”
